Terms & Conditions

Effective Date: January 15, 2026

These Terms and Conditions govern your use of Lumen Auto's luxury car rental services in Taiwan. By making a reservation or renting a vehicle from us, you agree to be bound by these terms. Please read them carefully before proceeding with your rental.

1. Definitions

"Agreement" refers to these Terms and Conditions along with your rental reservation and any supplementary documents.

"Renter" or "You" means the individual whose name appears on the rental agreement as the authorized driver.

"We," "Us," or "Company" refers to Lumen Auto, operating in Taiwan.

"Vehicle" means the car or vehicle rented to you under this agreement.

"Rental Period" means the time from when you take possession of the vehicle until it is returned to us.

2. Rental Requirements

Age and License Requirements

  • Renter must be at least 25 years of age
  • Valid driver's license held for minimum of two years
  • International visitors must present both international driving permit and home country license
  • Additional authorized drivers must meet the same requirements

Payment and Security Deposit

  • Major credit card required in renter's name
  • Security deposit will be held on credit card during rental period
  • Deposit amount varies based on vehicle type and rental duration
  • Deposit released within seven business days after vehicle return and inspection

Identification

Valid passport or national identification must be presented at vehicle pickup for verification purposes.

3. Reservation and Cancellation

Reservation Confirmation: All reservations are subject to vehicle availability. We will confirm your reservation via email with rental details and pickup instructions.

Cancellation Policy:

  • Cancellations made more than 72 hours before scheduled pickup: Full refund of any advance payment
  • Cancellations made 48-72 hours before pickup: 50% of rental fee charged
  • Cancellations made less than 48 hours before pickup or no-shows: Full rental fee charged

Modification: Changes to reservation dates or vehicle type are subject to availability and may incur additional charges.

4. Vehicle Use and Restrictions

Permitted Use

The vehicle may be driven by the renter and any additional authorized drivers listed on the rental agreement. The vehicle must be operated:

  • In accordance with Taiwan traffic laws and regulations
  • Only on paved roads suitable for the vehicle type
  • With due care and attention to safety
  • Within Taiwan's territorial boundaries

Prohibited Activities

The vehicle must not be:

  • Used for illegal purposes or transported across international borders
  • Driven by anyone under the influence of alcohol or controlled substances
  • Used for racing, competitive events, or testing purposes
  • Operated on unpaved roads, beaches, or unsuitable terrain
  • Subleased or rented to third parties
  • Used to transport hazardous materials
  • Driven by unauthorized persons not listed on the rental agreement

5. Insurance and Liability

Included Coverage: All rental packages include comprehensive insurance coverage as required by Taiwan law. This covers third-party liability and damage to the rental vehicle under normal operating conditions.

Renter Responsibility: You are responsible for:

  • Any damage resulting from violation of this agreement
  • Loss or damage to personal belongings left in the vehicle
  • Traffic violations and parking fines incurred during the rental period
  • Towing or impound fees resulting from traffic violations or parking infractions

Deductible: Standard insurance includes a deductible amount specified in your rental agreement. You will be responsible for this amount in the event of accident or damage.

6. Vehicle Condition and Return

Pickup Inspection

You will inspect the vehicle at pickup and note any existing damage on the inspection report. We recommend photographing the vehicle before departure.

Return Conditions

The vehicle must be returned:

  • At the agreed time and location
  • In the same condition as received, normal wear excepted
  • With the same fuel level as at pickup
  • Clean and free of excessive dirt or odors
  • With all provided equipment and documents

Late Return

Late returns may incur additional charges. If you need to extend your rental period, contact us as soon as possible. Extensions are subject to vehicle availability and may require additional payment.

7. Fees and Charges

Rental Fees: As specified in your reservation confirmation. Prices are in New Taiwan Dollars (NT$).

Additional Charges May Include:

  • Late return fees
  • Fuel charges if vehicle returned with less fuel than provided
  • Cleaning fees for excessive dirt or odors
  • Damage repair costs not covered by insurance
  • Traffic fines and administrative fees for processing violations
  • Lost key or equipment replacement

Payment: All charges will be billed to the credit card on file. You will receive an itemized invoice after vehicle return.

8. Accident and Breakdown Procedures

In the event of accident, breakdown, or theft:

  1. Contact local authorities immediately if there is injury, significant damage, or theft
  2. Notify Lumen Auto as soon as possible at +886 2 2738 5461
  3. Do not admit liability or make statements to other parties
  4. Obtain contact and insurance information from other parties involved
  5. Document the scene with photographs if safe to do so
  6. Complete an accident report form provided by our team
  7. Follow instructions from our roadside assistance coordinator

9. Termination of Agreement

We reserve the right to terminate this agreement and repossess the vehicle without notice if:

  • The vehicle is used in violation of these terms
  • You provide false information in the rental application
  • The vehicle appears to be abandoned
  • We believe the vehicle is in danger of damage or confiscation
  • You fail to maintain required insurance or payment obligations

Early termination by us for violation of terms does not entitle you to a refund.

10. Limitation of Liability

To the extent permitted by Taiwan law:

  • We are not liable for indirect, consequential, or incidental damages
  • Our total liability shall not exceed the total rental fees paid
  • We are not responsible for personal belongings left in or stolen from the vehicle
  • We do not guarantee uninterrupted availability of roadside assistance in all areas
  • Route recommendations are provided as suggestions only; final driving decisions rest with the renter

11. Governing Law and Disputes

Governing Law: This agreement is governed by the laws of Taiwan, Republic of China. Any disputes will be subject to the jurisdiction of Taiwan courts.

Dispute Resolution: Before pursuing formal legal action, parties agree to attempt resolution through good-faith negotiation. If negotiation fails, disputes shall be resolved in the courts of Taipei, Taiwan.

12. Changes to Terms

We may update these Terms and Conditions periodically. Changes will be posted on our website with a revised effective date. Your continued use of our services after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the modified terms.
